Motivated For Change + My Message For You

If I’m being honest, motivating myself this past week was challenging. With the weight of everything happening in our world right now I’ve been processing a lot of thoughts and feelings. Learning, un-learning, shifting my perspective, listening, pivoting!

Even in the discomfort of the social and racial injustice conversation and the Black Lives Matter Movement that is happening in our country I’m finding hope. Hope in watching communities come together for a greater purpose, hope for those who are willing to take a stand, hope for those who are willing to change their ways, hope for our humanity. I refuse to feel hopeless about this crisis. I’ve been inspired by all the stories I’ve read, people of color sharing their truths and bearing their souls for the world to see and learn. It isn’t their job to teach us and yet they are here, willing to help us understand what we should have known all along.

This isn’t just about learning though, action is needed to speak out on the injustices that are happening, have been happening, in our country. We must help protect people of color. You can watch all the movies, listen to all the podcasts and read all the books, you should still do that, but action is necessary too!.

So while you are getting up to speed on the history of our country, please don’t forget how to take action on this knowledge.

Donate, support, speak up, speak out!

So today, I’m motivated. I’m moved and motivated to do better, learn more, stand with!

On a personal note, I implore you to take care of yourselves. It’s okay, in fact it’s paramount, that you take time to pause, breathe, recenter yourself. Come back to rituals like yoga and meditation to ground yourself. Often times our anxious feelings can have us wrapped up in worry of the “what ifs” and take us far away from the present moment. Simply tuning towards our breathe can help bring us back. In addition to quiet more still practices, physical movement has so many benefits for the mind and body as well. I find working out with a mix or cardio, toning and weights as well as a daily mindfulness practice that includes yoga and mediation is the perfect blend to keep me feeling my best.

My favorite resources right now include: Insight Timer, Empower Yoga, Flourished Meditation, Barreista Be Well Community Studio.

All of these organizations are committed to inclusivity and support of black lives.
