Healthy Habits Update

Today marks the start of week 3 of the April Healthy Habits Challenge. In week 1 we focused on nutrition, adding more greens and vegetables to our day. In week 2 we turned our attention to moving the body a little more than usual by adding a walk each day. Now, in week 3, we are working on the mind. This weeks challenge is to meditate for 10 minutes each day. I think this will be the hardest week of the challenge for me. My commitment to meditating is not what I would like it to be. I’m actually really looking forward to this week in the hopes that the Barreista community will help hold me accountable as I share my meditation journey with you.

I’m a big fan of ritual and routine. Creating some of that around my mediation practice will give me the best chance of being successful not only this week but also with incorporating a daily practice going forward. Read on to see how I’m approaching this week.

Make Space

Creating a dedicated space where I can meditate will be key to my success. I want this space to feel peaceful, have good energy and have a few of my favorite things. I use a floor cushion like this to help support me. They make lots of different kinds and sizes, depending on how much room you have. Of course my oils are close by at all times and I love starting my day with an uplifting blend.

Make Time

Sticking to the same time everyday will be important. Just like with anything else in life, we have to prioritize the things that matter most to us. Mornings will work best for me and it seems like the perfect way to start my day.

Enlist Help

Keep Calm, literally! I plan to use the Calm app to help guide me through my meditations. I’ve used and loved this app for a long time. I primarily use it for sleep stories but I’m looking forward to exploring more of their meditations.

Be Open

I’m not expecting it to be easy to set aside this time each day, especially as I feel busier than ever in my day to day life. However, I want to remain open to the possibilities of how this practice could change me and show myself grace if it’s not perfect. ps. this last part is so hard for me!

Are you joining in on the challenge this week? Have you been following along all month? I’d love to hear from you and cheer you on!

If you already meditate regularly I’d love to hear about your practice.
