Get Some Sleep
This week’s wellness challenge is about getting some good sleep! The average healthy adult needs between 7 and 9 hours of sleep a night to function at their best, while children and teenagers need even more. Quick gut check, are you getting 7-9 hours of shut eye each night? Well, if you aren’t this is my challenge to you!
Getting enough sleep helps our bodies in so many ways. Our bodes use this down time to heal and repair itself. Adequate sleep can also reduce stress and help you feel refreshed the next day.
Today I’m sharing my top tips for reaching that sleep goal.
Stay On Schedule
Sticking to a schedule helps train your mind and body, letting it know when it is time to wind down and hit the hay. I try to go to bed at the same time every night, give or take 30 minutes.
Create A Ritual
To signal myself that it’s bed time I fill my diffuser with water and the essential oils I want to use for that night, I wash my face, brush my teeth and get into my pj’s. I apply my the essential oils that help with hormones, sleep and whatever else I might feel I need that particular night and climb under the covers.
Devices Down
If you are someone who struggles to turn your brain off at bed time I suggest shutting down your electronics prior to getting into bed. If you are laying in bed scrolling mindlessly you might be wasting precious time you could be sleeping.
Regulate Your Temp
Finding a comfortable temperature to sleep at is important. You don’t want to be too hot or too cold. I prefer a cooler environment for sleeping. We use the Nest which lets you set a schedule for your thermostat.
Mask On
My biggest tip for those of you who have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep or going back to sleep in the middle of the night is a sleep mask! I have slept with one for nearly 6 years and it has been a game changer. I wear this one and love the quality of this brand.
