Make New Friends

If you were a Girl Scout a certain song might come to mind when you see that phrase, Make New Friends…

Make new friends,
but keep the old.
One is silver,
the other is gold.

I’m talking about friendship today. As I’m knocking on the door of 40 I realize now more than ever how important quality female friendships are. There’s a saying that some friends are in your life for a reason, some for a season and some for a lifetime. When we are young, our vision is often short sighted. We can’t imagine that we’d ever have a falling out with a friend or experience the heartbreak of a breakup with a bestie. This is not to say some of your friends have been “lifers”, but as you start living longer you realize that friendships can ebb and flow, they can come and go.

If you figured this out early on in life, I’m applauding you. For me it’s taken a little longer, some life lived, some lessons learned. That being said I couldn’t be more grateful for the women in my life today, the ones I’ve known along the way and the ones that I may still meet.

Let’s face it, it can be scary to make friends as an adult. I know this is not just me feeling this way. In the world of social media we’ve started to connect with people in completely different ways. I love that for so many reasons, I’ve met people I never would have otherwise and some have become very good in-real-life friends! I want to pay that forward by stepping off of Instagram and Facebook and bringing that connection out into the world.

I created “Say Yes” to give women and myself the chance, the freedom to take a leap of faith, step out of our comfort zones and literally say yes to going on a coffee or tea date with a new friend, come to a meet up or event, let yourself be vulnerable enough to say yes and watch the magic happen. When women come together and share ideas, share their stories, share a little bit of themselves it is a beautiful thing. It has become a driving energy force within me, something I feel compelled to do, create opportunities for women to meet and connect, share and discover. For as unique and individual as we all are, we are all so very much connected.
