How I Reset After Travel
Today I'm going to share with you how I reset my body after traveling. I don't know about you, but traveling can wreak havoc on my body. It dehydrates me, makes my skin breakout and depending on my nutrition and activity on the trip, I can be really thrown off balance. The first thing I do is stick to as much of my regular routine that I keep at home when I'm away and I talked about that
.
I don't go on any crazy juice cleanses or starve myself. I take it back to basics and I'm going to share a few of the things I do following a trip, especially longer ones, to get back to feeling my best!
Drink ALL THE WATER
- I'm not someone who needs to be tagged in a water chugging post because I'm not drinking enough water, but I need even more than usual when traveling and when I return because my body naturally dehydrates, especially when flying.
Pro Tip: Travel with a reusable water bottle to make sure you have water with you at all times. You can usually fill them up in the hotel gym and more airports are installing the water bottle refill stations. Environmentally friendly too!

Cut the Alcohol
- I usually don't drink during the week and unless I'm traveling for pleasure there are many work trips I take that I don't drink, but remember that dehydration I just talked about, alcohol just makes that worse. So I always try to stay away from alcohol for a week after traveling, especially on a long trip like we just took to Mexico when I drank way more than usual! Hello, Detox, my name is Alexis!
Pro Tip: Have some Kombucha on hand to help curb the desire to have a cocktail or glass of wine and go ahead and throw it in a fancy glass to feel even better about it!

Eat Clean
- Lean, Clean and Green is the motto here! Leafy greens, all the vegetables, lean protein and let your tummy recover a bit. If it's cold outside I also like to do broth soups for dinner and at least one salad every day. Since I've moved to almost a completely plant based diet, it's been easier to maintain this while I'm away, but there is always the dreaded bread basket! So stay away from sugars, processed foods and keep the produce coming!
Pro Tip: You might be coming home to a house with no fresh groceries so always keep frozen veggies on hand. They are great for throwing together a quick soup or my favorite cauliflower "fried" rice dish. I also love a smoothie bowl! I literally want to hug mine every time I get home.
Sleep
- Get your nighttime routine back in check! Fire up that diffuser and drop some Lavender or Peace & Calming in for a restful night sleep. I am a big fan of a sleep mask, when I'm at home and when I travel. I find I wake up less and if I do wake up, I fall back asleep more easily.

Pro Tip: If traveling with the whole kitten caboodle of oils and diffuser isn't your jam, considering bringing along just a roller ball filled with one of those relaxing oils to use at night to help encourage better sleep while you are away.
